It is crucial to keep your online privacy intact when it comes to torrents, so you need to be aware of the peculiarities of specific torrent clients to prevent data and IP leaks.
When connecting to PrivadoVPN, there is no need to make additional changes to the settings because most modern torrent clients work solely through the default network Interface protected by the VPN. However, there are torrent clients whose settings can independently change the default interfaces and thus expose your data. For example, qBittorrent has undergone significant changes recently, and it can now use all available active network interfaces, not just the default one. This may result in data leaks despite having an active VPN connection.
To solve this problem, the PrivadoVPN team recommends using the Kill Switch function. This option blocks all active network interfaces except the VPN, leaving qBittorrent with only one choice — the VPN interface. After enabling the Kill Switch, you can be sure that qBittorrent will not leak your data.
Even though the logic of the Kill Switch feature is one, its implementation on macOS and Windows is different due to the peculiarities of their system architecture. Unlike macOS, where the Kill Switch is activated immediately, on Windows, the blocking occurs only after you start the PrivadoVPN application.
Recommended actions
1. Activate "Kill Switch":
For both Windows and MacOS systems, simply toggle "Kill Switch" to the green "On" status:
2. Activate "Auto Start" (Settings > Application):
3. Activate "Auto Connect" (Settings > VPN):
4. Remove your torrent client from the Windows Startup: Press Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager > Startup apps. Locate your torrent app and shift its status to 'Disabled'.
